Jason Alexander was born on 23 September 1959 in Newark, New Jersey.

He was born into a Jewish household, both his mother, Ruth née Simon and his father, Alexander Greenspan, were Jewish. He has two half-siblings, Karen Von Horne and Michael Greenspan. Alexander’s mother worked as a nurse, and his father was an accounting manager.
